Veteran's Book Club of CaliforniaFounded by disabled U.S. Army combat veteran John Lee, Veteran's Book Club of California provides books for children of disabled veterans and veterans themselves by shipping them bulk of books on a regular basis. In addition to serving veterans, the book club provides prisons with books for inmates as well as donates English books to foreign churches that do not have access to English books.
"When I was still recovering from my injuries, I found that my children were not able to visit the libraries due to my disabilities. I was not able to read, either. Through many Veteran forums and meetings, I found out that was the case for so many other Veterans. It really saddened me to realize that so many were denied the gift of reading, and I know what kind of rehabilitative effect reading has. I am mobile now, and I can freely provide my children with books. I would wish the same freedom for other veterans, but many of them are either bed-ridden or immobile. Many of them must go through great lengths (i.e. wheelchair) to provide rides for their children and themselves." - John Lee, U.S. Army Combat Veteran

A Special Note from U.S. Department of Education and USDA
During the school year, more than 21 million children rely on free and reduced school meals, but during the summer, only 3.8 million participate in the USDA’s summer meals program. This means that too many kids are at risk of hunger because they are out of school. To help prevent summer hunger, the USDA partners with schools, local governments, and community organizations to provide free meals to children during the summer. This means that any child under the age of 18 can go to a designated summer meal site and eat for free.
